God I have been slack!

November 2, 2011 @ 08:30 AM

......so please forgive me.

I have been absolutely crazy busy with shooting way too much of recent and alot of the work i have been doing i havent been able to display at the clients request.  Luckily enough i have got out of that situation and im ready, locked and loaded for a big couple of months.

Just to name a few things that i have coming up are:

  • 2 National Calendars of Bronzed Aussie Guys and Bronzed Aussie Girls hitting the shelf for 2013.
  • Summer workshops, the first of which will be on this weekend so keep your eyes peeled for the results and the BTS shots and videos
  • Some further upcoming publications
  • Weekly / Bi-weekly tips
  • ...and a couple of suprises.

Id like to kick this off quickly though with everyone who emails me asking for upcoming dates on workshops.  Both Edward Hor and I do our workshops on a fairly regular basis.  They are mainly focused around the summer periods and warmer periods and we are trying to get some more out this year than last year to satsfy the demand. As much as we promote the workshops on our own site, we also have created a site which not only hosts our workshops, but other photographers workshops which we classify as "good and fair" for other photographers to attend.   This site is:

http://www.photography-workshops.info

Be sure to book mark it, sign up to the mailing list to get fist dibs on the courses offered.

Yesterday not only being the Melbourne Cup day but was also a day of one of those little suprises you receive.  I got an email in from an image i took years ago down on cronulla beach.  A lady wanted it for a website she was creating so i just handed it over to her for free.  She had thanked me and now the site is done.  Take a look at:

http://sydney.schmap.com/

The brief that i have been given is "... real-time local buzz for events, restaurants, bars and more" Hopefully for Claire it picks up and is a goto point for all things local in peoples areas.  On the note of my image its a tinny weeny little one up in the right hand corner of Cronulla Beach Walk - http://sydney.schmap.com/attractions/cronulla_beach_walk?pn=5

Thats about it for the moment guys, i am currently writting up a draft to hopefully help people not get in a situation which i was in by not being able to utilise images and get paid fairly for the work you do.

If you have anything else you would like me to cover be sure to drop me a line.

ps, im getting a miniture dashound puppy next week!!

White Bay Power Station - Sydney

June 20, 2011 @ 10:41 PM

We were forunate enough recently for the local council to open up a much guarded power station here in Sydney.  The white bay power station.  Its an amazing place and was very eary.  I just wish they would have allowed more areas opened up as its a huge place and hardly any was opened.  Maybe next time a gold coin donation could go towards opening up some of the other areas smile

Well heres some images anyway

Deputy

May 31, 2011 @ 11:32 AM

Deputy is a new business who are developing (as i understand it) a SAAS (software as a solution) product primarily aimed at the hospitality industry.

The software seems remarkable and is a total integrated package for anyone who is running a pub, cafe, restaurant etc. From my very quick display, i was very impressed.

Deputy were requiring images that are to be displayed on their company website displaying their product in use, in a real environment with people using it.  I met with the Deputy staff and headed to their pilot site and got a range of images and these were the stock images that were chosen.

Coogee Bay Hotel

May 31, 2011 @ 12:19 AM

Thankfully i was recommened by another friend and photographer (Rob Gjessing) to help him out on a shoot that he wasnt able to do with one of his clients.

The client being the famous Coogee Bay Hotel.

The breif was that they had some objects that they needed to shoot which would make up their raffle draw which consisted of a boat and various other camping equipment.

I had a greenscreen so it was off to work i go.  I met the lady at Coogee Bay Hotel and we got shooting, unfortuantely the products were huge (fortunate for the winner) so my green screen could only partially cover the objects each time.  So multiple shots later we covered the boat, then the camping gear.

I have done a quick mock up for the finished result but this isnt what the Coogee Bay Hotel will be using, they have had their designers work on this.  Thanks again to Rob and the Coogee Bay Hotel for the opportunity to shoot there hope i win the boat! :D

On a side note, as soon as i walked in and saw the products i knew i was in for a problem with my screen size.  Thankfully knowing the applications to be used i was able to think like i would be the designer and what i would expect, so with this in mind i shot with the mindset of merging all images together with masks and using the selective color range tool to cut the images out.  Worked an absolute treat! I hope the graphic designers appreciate the forethought of doing this rather than just taking the shots and passing the problem onto them.

Photography Workshops - What is this all about

May 6, 2011 @ 01:45 PM

As all who frequent this site know, myself and my photography partner Edward Hor run a lot of different styled workshops and these travel all through australia to most Capital cities.

As much as i will still be advertising the workshops on my website, the main place for the workshop information is going to be now hosted at Photography Workshops.  This is a new website that allows photographers of all styles to host their workshops to a wider audience than what they may currently have available.

Its great for all photographers who are wanting to teach and also learn.  No additional costs to anyone purchasing or selling any courses just a group portal for the events coming up.  I strongly recommend all photographers either learning or teaching to take a look at it.  You never know, you may want to hold your own course on there.

Be sure to bookmark www.photography-workshops.info or email info [at] photography-workshops [dot] info if you want any further information about hosting a course.

Farm Girls

April 27, 2011 @ 11:42 PM

Ever visited a farm and seen cowgirls like this?

Hardly think so smile

With many thanks to Kimbery Storos for organising the farm, we lined up some top models to shoot a glamed up theme.  The models in question are Kylie Whyte (Zoo weekly Sexpert), Sarah Pipica (Lynx Lodge Girl), Ally Kelly (Monster Energy Girl) and Kimberly who is the face of hoodster.

So what does this leave us? massively gorgeous girls with a perfect outlook.  Be sure to take a look at what we captured.

Dave.

Zoo Weekly Issue 270 Page 37

April 27, 2011 @ 12:08 AM

Take it or leave it, but theres not a better satisfaction than seeing that email come in asking for some photos to be published in a national magazine.

Luckily enough this was me the other week.

I had recently shot with Marta Dabrowski who is a model in Sydney who i shot with previously and we had a shot published in Nuts UK magazine last year.  Well we struck it up again on our second shoot (2 shots 2 publications).  Marta is the CFC (Cage Fighting Championship) Ring Girl and we were lucky enough to get ring entrance before the fights in Sydney to quickly snap these shots.  We were giving 30minutes and that was it.

Fighters were surrounding us and all officials were looking in wondering what we were doing.  Lightstands everywhere, lenses being thrown left right and centre.  Working up a sweat running around to get as many shots as we could.

Rushed in and rushed out we managed to get some excelent photos and ones that we are happy enough to forward to Zoo Weekly here in Australia.  Well they picked them up and of Issue 270, on page 37 there they are smile

Im a little bit chuffed wink

Have a look at some of the other shots we have done too.

Elisa and Dale Lawton

April 14, 2011 @ 11:01 PM

Not only are the clients celebrating their wedding, but they are two of my very good friends.

I had the opportunity to capture my friends, Dale and Elisa’s wedding and brought along Edward Hor to work alongside me.

Dale and Elisa were married in at Allegro Function Centre at Middle Dural.  The settings, the environment the scenery was perfect throughout the whole day and provided a lot of opportunities to setup for each shot.

As a photographer who is generally used to shooting under strobes and big lights, we were limited to where we could use these during the shots.  We shot a range of shots with a handheld reflector and also some under our lights.  This was fun to keep the mind working and travelling through the day constantly trying new ways.

I truly appreciate Dale and Elisa’s friendship and it was lovely to shoot their wedding and I enjoyed it as not only a guest but as a photographer.
